Gyanodaya Bal Batika is well introduced as a school with fair renown, contributing to the upliftment of the educational standards for over four decades. The school was founded by Mrs Indira Yakthumba in solemn tribute to her husband His Excellency Late Gyan Bahadur Yakthumba, a true patriot of Nepal, a multi-faceted personality, a fighter for democracy, human rights and justice, a diplomat and the first inspector general of police from the public.
Gyanodaya Bal Batika is located at Bungamati/ Khokana, Lalitpur amid a tranquil, naturally divine ambience, conducive to peaceful teaching and learning. The immaculate infrastructure and the huge, green, eco-friendly premises with all the futuristic facilities are what make Gyanodaya a comprehensive educational institute at the top of the list of the best schools in Nepal.
Gyanodaya is where every child is special and every child matters. The school has concern and looks into the attitude and aptitude of every child, provides a platform to express their views and opinions and showcase their innate and acquired skills and talents.
The School’s endeavours are not limited to the academics; we hone children’s skills with a wide range of co and extra-curricular activities, interaction sessions, carnivals and festivals, cultural programmes, excursions and outings for pragmatic learning, life skills and self- reliance. Our focus in this regard is always on universal modern approaches and digital literacy. What we strive for is the production of competent intellectual global citizens.
The journey that began as a Pre-Primary School in 1975 culminated into a Secondary level institution in 1986. And over the years, Gyanodaya has developed in size, dimension, content and scope, and acquired an enviable aura. It has grown rapidly, and today it stands tall as one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the country imparting education now up to the Bachelor’s level.
Today it is a consortium of a number of educational institutions comprising of two Secondary Schools — one catering primarily to the needs of day students another developed exclusively for residential students — both imparting education leading to certificate level awarded by the School Leaving Certificate Board of the Government of Nepal; a Higher Secondary School meeting the 10+2 educational needs of the students affiliated to the Higher Secondary Board of the Country; a College affiliated to the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, offering a three-year Bachelor’s Degree in Business Studies with plans afoot to start in the near future other streams in science and humanities; and a Social Service Division institutionalising Gyanodaya’s active involvement of over three decades in social service and community work. This Division, among others, runs full-fledged formal pre-primary education classes free for children of the deprived and underprivileged community, and also informal adult literacy classes for all interested women.
If the credit for this growth and expansion has to go to any one person, it has to be the Founder Principal of Gyanodaya Bal Batika Mrs. Indira Yakthumba. Gyanodaya stands for her courage to withstand many challenges and march ahead with quiet confidence and determination in the face of many odds.
